Carnivals, solstices, Easter bonfires, harvest festivals, and many other celebrations were essential pillars of our ancestors’ customs. Such festivals gave them stability and security to weather the storms of life. This book, first published in 1941, takes us far and deep back into the consciousness of our Nordic ancestors. What did they organize their lives around? What did they believe in? What message have they left us? The poetic tone of this book should not deceive the reader – it is based on scientific knowledge about the roots of a tradition that is still very much alive, although few people are left who understand it significance. So let us learn to recognize ourselves – in the legacy of our ancestors.
