The Gods of the Egyptians

E. A. Wallis Budge

As one of the foundational works of modern Egyptology, The Gods of the Egyptians has become an authoritative text on the history of religion in ancient Egypt. The book is profusely illustrated, with many reproductions of tomb and sarcophagus paintings, while several full texts are presented in both hieroglyphic transliteration and translation.

Volume I contains an overview of early religion in ancient Egypt, including conceptions of the netherworld, chthonic deities, hell and the damned, as well as myths of the creation and destruction of mankind, while Volume II features a systematic overview of the deities associated with times and places, including a thorough description of various star gods and their relation to the ancient Egyptian calendar. Particular attention is given to Osiris, Isis and other major gods.
