“The imperialist methods of the U.S. and Great Britain are practically the same. Although the British may have been more inclined throughout their history to conquer foreign territories by force of arms, this is mainly because at that time vast areas of the earth were inhabited by people of color who had not yet come under the rule of the White man. While the U.S. did not shy away from such methods, it primarily resorted to indirect seizure of countries due to the prevailing circumstances. Capital investment is the first step, soon followed by the second, much more far-reaching one: interference in the internal political affairs of the states concerned. All the principles of the Monroe Doctrine that were emphatically preached have suddenly ceased to exist for Americans in this regard. If they do not approve of the government of a country that is influenced by their capital or economic interests, they will overthrow it and replace it with a new one.”
